Most people associate cooking over burning embers with Spain’s Basque region. But you can also find restaurants that cook in that manner in adjacent Navarre. Located in Lekunberri, one of the most beautiful villages in the area, this rustic farmhouse is dominated by a grill. Starters include the region’s famous asparagus or red beans from Tolosa. The fish – cod, monkfish, sea bream, turbot – come directly from the Bay of Biscay. But the main event is the giant steaks grilled over embers. It is one of the few restaurants in Spain where the grillmaster is a woman.
